Have I mentioned how much we love it when people reach out to let us know they've made one of our homemade dog treat recipes? Yesterday, Pam E., did it again! She made our Bodacious Apple Pie Dog Treats and they came out gorgeous. Thank you, Pam for sharing with us!

A couple of weeks ago, right in the middle of a crazy, busy week, a tiny spark of an idea surfaced in my brain. At the time, I was thinking about Valentine's Day. We wanted to do something different this year. Something fun. That's when it happened. A tiny spark that led to the idea of launching something similar to our Bodacious 12 Days Of Christmas.

Originally, the inspiration for this week's homemade dog biscuit revolved around a single, very ripe banana. However, moments before creating the recipe, I sliced up some carrots for our fur-kids to munch on. I had a good sized chunk leftover. There I was. Holding the carrot. Staring at the banana. That's when it happened. I thought, "Why not use both." I pulled the grater from the drawer, grabbed some ingredients from the baking cupboards and I spent the next couple of hours experimenting, mixing, rolling, and baking.

Since the launch of Bodacious Biscuit Love, over 3 years ago, we've had the opportunity to spend time with lots of shelter and rescue pups. All in all, it's been an emotional roller coaster. We've witnessed happy endings. We've visited with pups the day after being rescued from horrific situations. We've spent time with senior pups who were abandoned by their "owners" because they were too old. And, everything between. I've lost count how many times the waterworks have poured down our faces during and after visits. Some are happy tears. Others, not so much.

When any of our fur-kids celebrate their Gotcha Day, they get to choose a cupcake of choice. In our bodacious household, we make cupcakes that are both human and pup friendly. That even includes the fresh made frosting and Bodacious Biscuit Love Peanut Butter dog treat on top.

We spent the entire day yesterday repurposing our old entertainment center into a lounge area for the fur-kids. It was Lobo's 2 Year Gotcha Day gift request. We started the project around 11 a.m. and finished early evening. Lisa primed and painted the entertainment center while I worked at the kitchen table sewing the doggy bed, patchwork quilt and matching pillows. We allowed the paint to dry on the overnight. This morning, we put everything together and we are lovin' the finished product.

Lobo's 2 Year Gotcha Day is on Monday. When any of our rescue fur-kids celebrate their Gotcha Day, they get to pick the dinner of their choice, dessert, and a gift. This year, Lobo requested a lounge area that's a little secluded. Like a nook or small indoor dog house. Something that would be big enough for his brother and sister to enjoy as well. This was something we could easily make, however, there was only one problem. There is very little floor space left in our Bodacious Home because of furniture, doggy beds, doggy toy boxes, and Olivia's habitat.

As most of y'all know, we're going to be creating a new, homemade dog treat recipe every week this year to share. That's a lot of recipes! I've got a small notebook I use to write down ideas as they come. However, I'm lookin' to gather some inspiration from our incredible Bodacious Community and beyond!

Often times, between working on blog posts, baking biscuit love, creating a homemade dog treat recipe for the week, housework, DIY Dog Mom Projects, meal prep, making biscuit love care packages, work stuff, and everything between, I find a few minutes here and there to work on...stuff. Pick my brain for ideas. Scope out my surroundings for inspiration.

I've been on a fresh fruit kick for the past couple of weeks with our Bodacious Carrot Cake Cookie dog treats and Bodacious Apple Pie Dog Treats. I had every intention of creating another homemade dog treat recipe using fresh fruit, however, we found a great deal on dehydrated blueberries over the weekend. That shifted my focus a little and inspired me to create a peanut butter free, soft baked blueberry biscuit.

During a conversation the other day, a friend of ours asked where I was getting the ideas for our homemade dog treat recipes. Pinterest? Recipe sites? Google? My answer to all 3 was a simple, "No." Although the internet provides a world of recipes for homemade dog treats to accommodate any type of canine diet, that's not where I find inspiration. Maybe I'm a little old-fashioned or it could just be that I've been baking for well over 30 years. Back in the day we didn't have the internet to rely on for inspiration.

We've had quite a few requests for our DIY Doggy Toy Boxes! This weekend, we've got 2 to offer! You can customize your Doggy Toy Box to your liking! Each box is $25 and that includes a bag of our Bodacious Peanut Butter Dog Treats AND a surprise dog-themed gift.

We love any and all feedback, questions, and comments we receive via our Bodacious Biscuit Love Facebook page or email. One of our most favorite things to read and see is when someone lets us know they made one of our Homemade Bodacious Dog Treat Recipes and includes a photo. This happened earlier today, but it wasn't in the form of a message or email. A sweet woman, Pam E., who I remember from high school, left a photo on my personal Facebook page.

Most of our Bodacious Dog Treat recipes are made with peanut butter. We're working hard to create recipes that are peanut butter free. A few days ago, we did just that. Our inspiration behind this week's recipe was a simple apple. Since creating last week's Bodacious Carrot Cake Cookie recipe, I've been focusing more on using fresh fruits and vegetables instead of dehydrated. After a couple of tries, we came up with a scrumptious recipe for Bodacious Apple Pie Biscuits. They're made with simple ingredients and are super easy to make.

I can't believe the amount of messages and emails we've received in the past couple of weeks about the homemade biscuit recipes we've been posting. We're lovin' it! We love responding to the questions and all of the feedback. We especially love it when people reach out to let us know they've tried one of our recipes. Keep 'em coming!

One of the big decisions that we made last year was to share the recipe for our Bodacious Peanut Butter Dog treats. We also posted the recipes for the other flavors we offered several years ago. That inspired us to take things a step further and continue to post recipes for homemade dog treats. These recipes weren't going to be just any ol' recipe. We wanted to create our very own recipes to share and inspire.

Even though it's been a productive week, it's been rough. Last week, we created our first homemade Bodacious Dog Treat Recipe of 2017. We also shipped out a couple of biscuit love care packages and we have more going out this week. And, our Bodacious Biscuit Love Bin is fully stocked. Unfortunately, through all of this, we were both hit with the nasty virus that's been going around. That put us a little behind on our weekly DIY Dog Mom Project and it was the reason why we delayed baking biscuit love for a couple of days.

Last Wednesday, I whipped up our first new dog biscuit recipe for 2017. It almost didn't happen because I was out of dried fruits and dehydrated vegetables. I use those ingredients often during the process of creating new recipes. However, on a whim, I utilized what we had and that included fresh grated carrots. An hour later, these crunchy gems were cooling on the biscuits trays.

Back in June, a sweet lady from our Bodacious Community, Claudia, had her 2 fur-babies featured as the Pets Of The Week in the Norwich Bulletin. Accompanying the photo of her pups, Barnaby and Chloe, there was write up about her pups that included a Bodacious Biscuit Love shout out. When Claudia sent us a message and copy of the write up, we were thrilled! It made our day. Today, we received a similar message.

On Wednesday, we created our first homemade dog treat recipe of 2017. There was a bit of a challenge. After examining the contents of our baking cupboards, I discovered there was very little to work with. I almost walked away. Shortly after, I realized walking away would only defeat the entire purpose of our ongoing mission to inspire pup parents to make their own pup treats. An hour later, I had fresh baked dog treats on the cooling racks.

Lisa and I have never been sick at the same time, but this flu season is hitting hard and spreading like wildfire. One of us got hit at the beginning of the week. The other, today. Fever. Aches. Chills. Head and chest cold. It has kicked both of our butts. Thankfully, the antibiotic seems to be working and DayQuil is easing the symptoms. However, this weekend we decided to hunker down and take it easy.

Throughout the week, we get messages and emails from people in our Bodacious Community and beyond. These messages and emails are all over the charts. Photos of pups eating our biscuits. Questions. A note of thanks for sharing recipes. Comments about blog and Facebook posts. An invitation to an upcoming event. The list goes on. Yesterday we received a message that was kind of a first for us.

One of our goals for this year is to create a new homemade dog treat recipe every week to share with everyone. It's Wednesday. I needed to get on the ball with this week's recipe. At first, it wasn't looking too promising when I opened the baking cupboard. The stash of dried fruit was gone. I had no dehydrated vegetables on hand. There wasn't a single can of mashed pumpkin to be found. I was almost on the brink of putting it off until tomorrow, but then I realized that would be taking the easy way out.

At least once a week, I organize the biscuit room, but over the holiday rush, I let it slide a bit. We had a few bags and a box of donations, some gorgeous fabric, thread, and lace donated to us by a sweet lady back in November, and the holiday bags and containers were still out. I spent almost 2 hours this afternoon getting things organized, putting the holiday stuff away and...restocking our Bodacious Biscuit Love Bin.

Yesterday, we baked lots of biscuit love. Today, we made a couple of bodacious biscuit love care packages. In one of the packages, we included a $20 gift card to Walmart to assist the recipient with purchasing dog food. Unfortunately, the post office is closed today. We'll be shipping both care packages out tomorrow.

Last night we had a couple of friends over for a cookout. Yes, we fired up the grill in the frigid temperatures. The food and drinks were incredible and there was no shortage of laughs. It was a much needed evening after a busy holiday season and spending all of last week catching up. This morning, we didn't waste any time. By 10 a.m. the oven was on and we were making and baking biscuit love.
