For the last few years, I've been very mindful of the many baked goods that I whip up in our kitchen. Aside from our biscuits, I bake a lot during the week. Whether it's for Lisa's breakfast or work snacks, special occasions, Gotcha Days or a festive gathering we're attending, about 90% of what I make is both human AND pup friendly.
We like to share little nibbles with the kids. I want other people to be able to share with their fur-kids too. In order to do that, what I bake has to include all pup safe ingredients. On occasion, I do bake something that is made with chocolate or fresh lemon or lime zest. For obvious reasons, those baked treats are off limits.
With some recipes, I've had to alter the ingredients a bit. For example, these Bodacious Pumpkin Cupcakes, a recipe I created years ago, had to be adjusted. I had to leave out the nutmeg. This spice contains a compound called Myristicin and it can cause a bunch of negative reactions if your pup eats it. The only spice I use in these cupcakes is cinnamon.
I've had a lot of people reach out asking for the recipes. I'm always happy to share. In fact, this was the inspiration behind adding another section on the Our Bodacious Dog Mom Life blog site. This section will feature the baked goods I make for our household that are both human and pup friendly.
Of course, the Bodacious Pumpkin Cupcakes is the first recipe I'm adding.
