The Paw-Sibilities Are Endless
The other day we received a message asking about dog food recipes. We get these messages and emails quite a bit as most people know we don't feed our fur-kids store bought dog food. We're often asked for recipes, what books we use as resources, etc. Truth is, we don't have any recipes and we've never purchased a dog food recipe book.
The homemade meals we make for our fur-kids everyday was inspired by veterinarian advice shortly after we adopted Coco, lots of research and getting to know what our fur-kids like and don't like. Each one of our fur-kids has their likes and dislikes. We make their meals to suit their taste.
Their meals consist of lean meat (boneless, skinless chicken breast, steak, burger or a little fish), raw vegetables, steamed vegetables, fruit, whole grain, sweet potatoes and, a few times a week, Greek yogurt. Their combinations of food changes almost daily. In addition, they get a daily multi-vitamin. For snack they get raw vegetables, fruits and/or our biscuits.
Our way of thinking, when it comes to their meals, is that we wouldn't feed them anything we wouldn't eat ourselves.
This sums it up in a nutshell. Nothing fancy. Just simple, homemade meals. On the flip side, if you are looking for inspiration, there are plenty of books out there and online recipes to browse through.
It's a good idea to check with your veterinarian before changing your pup's diet and always, ALWAYS make sure what you're feeding your pup is safe. There are fruits, vegetables, herbs, etc. that are dangerous to dogs. Do your research.
The paw-sibilities are endless!
