Work Hard. Play Hard. It's All About Balance.

The day after our Bodacious Yard & Bake Sale...exhale! It's amazing what a solid, 8 hours of sleep can do for the mind, body and soul. Once awake and fully caffeinated, I tackled some much needed housework. Although I attempted to keep up with it last week, with all the yard sale donations rolling in, storing boxes of stuff in two rooms and CLUTTER, my efforts were fruitless.  I. Despise. Clutter. I've been grinding my teeth over the past week and pulling my hair out. Clutter. Clutter. Clutter. And, I won't even mention the 10 pounds of grass I vacuumed up this morning from the carpets. With all the in and out activity we had during yesterday's event, there was enough grass tracked in to fill a several lawn and leaf bags.

Slight exaggeration, but you get the idea.

We mentioned a while ago that our Bodacious Yard & Bake Sale was the kick-off to our anniversary weekend (which extends into Monday and Tuesday as Lisa took a couple of vacation days).  It was the perfect way to celebrate as Lisa and I both share the same passion for helping our local animals in need, rescue, fostering and everything between. Well, tonight, the celebration continues. After housework was completed, round two of our festivities began. Tonight, we're having Charlene and Bob over for dinner and drinks. They're our next-door neighbors who, over the past few years, have become family.

On the menu...homemade pizza, fresh garden salad, and "adult" Happy Punch Berry Slushies served up in gutted out watermelons for Charlene and I. Bob drinks beer. Lisa isn't a fan of booze. I spent most of the afternoon making pizza dough, cutting veggies, and prepping other ingredients for pizza and salad. And, can't forget gutting out the watermelon halves. A portion of the watermelon was crushed and put in the freezer for our drinks. The rest...instant dessert accompanied with homemade cookies.

Dinner turned out fabulous and the drinks...wowza! Light. Refreshing. Fruity. Slightly boozy. And, as Charlene described many times, "airy." We ate with gusto and laughed until our tummies hurt. Much. Needed. It's not often we take an evening to unwind, let loose and slack off a bit. However, slowly, we're putting time aside for that. Work hard. Play hard. It's all about balance.

On a side note, Charlene and I enjoyed our fruity beverages so much...we each had THREE! Next time, and yes there's going to be a next time before summer is over, to hell with dinner. Drinks and munchies. Who needs dinner when the drinks are this good.
