Our Bodacious Yard & Bake Sale Was A Success

We are beyond exhausted. Our goal was to have everything done by 6 p.m. last night so we could get a solid night's sleep before our Bodacious Yard & Bake Sale. If you've ever coordinated an event, you know nothing ever goes as planned. And, we expected just that. We had a few yard sale donations still rolling in early evening yesterday. Our counters and table were covered with baked goods for the "hoomans" ready to be packaged. At 8 p.m. we were still organizing and pricing items. Finally, when the clock hit 9 p.m., I told Lisa, "We've got enough. Go to bed. The rest we can use for our October Bodacious Fall Fling."

Lisa went to bed. I stayed up to package baked goods and to make sure all last-minute items were checked off from our list. I fell asleep around 1 a.m. The alarm went off at 4 a.m. By 4:30 we were dragging tables and tarps outside. At 5, we started lugging boxes outside and filling up the tables and tarps. At 6, our dear friend and neighbor, Charlene, arrived to assist and begin her day with us. By 7:30 we were all set up. Lisa did a final check on the signs we had put up the night before and grabbed iced coffees.

We had a fantastic day! The morning was a bit slow, however, by 10, things picked up and it was non-stop through the end of our event. We had quite a few people from our Bodacious Community stop by...both pups and "hoomans" and Animal Control Officers Patty (from Preston) and Karen (from Plainfield) stopped by to visit. Karen brought her two puppies (yes, they're puppies) Calvin and Stetson. They hung out for a bit and won the hearts of everyone who was here.

Although we were exhausted, we thoroughly enjoyed our afternoon and it made our day that so many people took time out of their busy Saturday to swing on by to show their support. We even met a few new faces including the winners of our Bodacious 'Fun In The Sun' Photo Contest. There was lots of love all the way around.

Right around 4 p.m. we started breaking things down, loaded boxes, folded tables and tarps and brought everything downstairs. Every muscle in our bodies were aching and our clothes were drenched with sweat. It was a scorcher. When all was said and done, we sat with Charlene on the porch, enjoyed a cold beverage and chatted for a bit.

This event was a labor of love and we gathered enough funds to stock up on ingredients, supplies, fabric for Bodacious Blanket, Tote, and Bandanna Love and to purchase some much needed items for our local shelters. We couldn't have done with without the help from our Bodacious Community and beyond. Between the yard sale donations and people getting the word out, our event was a huge success. And, we had enough yard sale donations left over for our Fall Fling in October. Yay!

We want to extend a special thank you to our friend Charlene who spent almost 12 hours busting ass today. Not only did she help us set up and take down, she assisted with everything between. And, we are extremely grateful to her awesome husband, Bob, who treated us to dinner.

We'll be doing this again in October....stay tuned for that!
