Two summers ago I acquired a new addiction. Vegan ice-cream. Yes, this exists. It has the consistency of soft serve ice-cream when made. No ice-cream maker needed. It's cold. Creamy. Sweet. And, it took care of my occasional craving for ice-cream.
While indulging, Coco would get as close to me as he could. Usually, if I was on the sofa, the first half of his body would be on my lap. I got the look. Ears perched. Head slightly tilted. I offered him a bite. Although hesitant, he tried it. We ended up sharing the dish. A bite for me. One for him. Repeat process. He licked the dish clean.
Since then, it's been a favorite summer cool down treat for both pups and "hoomans." Last summer, we introduced this creamy goodness to Sophie. It was love at first bite. This summer, Lobo will get his first taste. I have no doubt he'll be head over paws.
The recipe is simple...
A few over-ripe frozen bananas. Slice. Throw into food processor. Add a half cup of Greek Yogurt (optional). Then...a tablespoon or two (or three) of peanut butter.
As you can see, I don't measure.
Blend well. Scoop mixture into ice-cube trays, individual cups or one big container. Freeze for a couple of hours and it's ready!
This mixture is super versatile. Add more yogurt. Use flavored if you'd like. More peanut butter? Why not! A few times we've thrown in some blueberries or strawberries. We haven't come up with a concoction that our fur-kids don't like.
