Did You Know Some Dog-Related Expenses Are Tax Deductible?
Most of our friends are pet parents. We often joke about what it would be like if we were able to claim our fur-kids as dependents. Dedicated pet parents know where I'm going with this. They're our babies. The center of our world. Our fur-kids are entirely dependent on us for everything. We clean up vomit and poop, bathe them, take them to the doctor when they're sick, purchase toys, clothes, beds and blankets, entertain them, etc. So, why not claim them as a dependent, right?
Unfortunately, the IRS doesn't allow us to claim our fur-kids as as dependents. Not. One. Bit.
However, there are some dog-related tax deductions you may be eligible to claim this tax season. Some of these deductions include service dogs, therapy dogs, guard dogs, fostering, and jobs with dog expenses. Like with any deduction, there are guidelines and fine print. Before claiming any pet-related expense, always check with a tax professional first.
