Get Your Craft On With DIY Halloween Costumes For Dogs

Halloween is right around the corner and you know what that means. Costumes. I'm not sure if what I'm about to say will land us in the minority however, for what it's worth, here it goes. My wife and I don't dress up for Halloween...our furkids do. A few of our neighbors have been known to hand out trick-or-treat goodies to the pups who live nearby. This year, we're joining in on that tradition. Why should the "hoomans" have all the fun.

For the past couple of years, we've only had to purchase one costume. This year, it's two. Our lil' Coco bug hates apparel of any kind. The costume stays on long enough for a photo and then it's promptly taken off. Sweet Sophie has more of a tolerance for apparel. It's safe to say we'll have time for a photo or two and maybe a stroll around the block.

When we spotted these bumblebee costumes, it was love at first sight. Both of us rummaged through the entire stock while muttering, "Please have their size. Please have their size." This was a month ago and even then, it was limited supply. Now, they're all but sold out with a few less popular sizes lingering.

Like dog apparel, Halloween costumes for dogs have become quite popular over the years. A decade ago, the selection was scarce and finding a decent costume was hard to come by. Now, you can find pretty much anything from simple to elaborate. As with any novelty item for pets, there's sometimes a hefty price tag attached. I've seen costumes range anywhere from $8 to $50 and up.

If the prices send shivers up your spine, or you're unable to find a suitable Halloween Costume, there's another solution. Homemade costumes. You don't need to be an expert crafter to whip up these DIY dog costumes. For most, the materials needed are basic and you may even have a few already at home.

You've got a little under 3 weeks until Halloween. That's plenty of time to fall in love with a DIY dog costume and work your magic! And YES...we want to see your photos!
