More From The Long-Haired Geeky Gal

A month ago I made it public that I'd be greatly reducing my work hours effective June 1st. The month of May passed quickly. My milestone of transitioning from full time to part time arrived on Friday, May 30th. I cracked open a bottle of wine. In the weeks prior I had every intention of taking that day off. After 8 years of working 80+ hours a week, I wanted a day to separate the old and the new.

That didn't exactly happen. Biscuits needed baking, we had an event on June 1st and there were several boxes of biscuit love that had to be shipped out on June 2nd. After cracking open my bottle of wine, which almost resulted in injury ("grace" is not my middle name), I treated myself to a large glass and was back to work. Biscuits. Biscuits. Biscuits.

It's been non-stop since then. I'm not complaining. Nothing excites me more than trays piled high with biscuits ready to be packaged and shipped out to shelters. We also received a very exciting email and the ball is already rolling for an extremely remarkable opportunity. This one took us by surprise and several hours to process. I have no shame in admitting I was like a giddy teenager heading off to a concert for the first time.

I embrace weeks like this. There's one tiny flip-side...I haven't been able to work on the blog site as much as I've wanted to. In addition to the busy week, I'm still in the process of adjusting to less time at my desk. It's been weird. A good kind of weird. Several times, out of habit, I found myself sitting at my desk for no reason. I had to remind myself, "Lisa, you don't need to be sitting here. There's nothing for you to do. Go bake." Should I admit I said this out loud?

In the weeks ahead we'll be bulking up this blog site with lots of great stuff (there's that word again...stuff) including recipes for dozens of dog treats, tips and advice, resources and, quite possibly, exceptional deals on pet stuff. Let's face it, pet supplies can get a little pricey. However, after 8 years of scoping online for the latest and greatest deals (one of my many jobs), I know there are a lot of great deals, sales and online coupons that will help you save money. This is how we shop and we very seldom pay full price for anything.

Our goal is to make this blog site as resourceful as possible. This takes time. We'll get there. Little by little. With all the baking, packaging, shipping and delivering...sometimes it's hard to put aside a couple of hours to work on it. Some days are easier than others.

I'm looking forward to this journey. It'll take a few weeks to adjust. Less time at the desk. More time in the kitchen. We're finally there. Face forward. Full speed ahead.
